Our calculator is designed to help you estimate the maximum number of cartons that can fit onto a pallet. It does this by taking into account the physical dimensions and weight of your cartons, the chosen pallet base size, and the pallet’s maximum loading height. If you have a specific weight limit for the pallet, you can enter it and the calculator will use the lower value between spatial and weight-based constraints.

How to use the calculator
Select Dimension Unit:
Choose “Inches” or “Centimeters” depending on the units in which you measured your carton. (If you choose centimeters, the calculator automatically converts your carton dimensions into inches for internal calculations.)
Enter Carton Dimensions and Weight:
Carton Dimensions (L x W x H): Enter the length, width, and height of a single carton.
Carton Weight (lbs): Enter the weight of one carton.
Choose Pallet Base and Enter Loading Height:
Pallet Base: Select your pallet type. You can choose between a 40 x 48 inch pallet or a 32 x 48 inch pallet.
Max Pallet Loading Height (inches): Provide the available height for stacking cartons. (Note: A 5‑inch deduction is automatically applied to account for the wooden skid at the pallet’s base.)
Optional Weight Limit:
If there is a maximum weight the pallet can support, enter it here. If your pallet does not have a weight limit or you wish to ignore weight constraints, simply leave this field blank.
Calculate:
Click the Calculate button. The calculator will work out:
How many cartons can be arranged per layer (evaluating different orientations to maximize space).
The total number of layers possible given the adjusted loading height.
A spatial total (cartons per layer multiplied by the number of layers).
If a weight limit is entered, a separate weight-based limit is calculated.
The final output uses the lower of the two totals (spatial vs. weight) to ensure neither space nor weight limits are exceeded.
The results, including the estimated total weight of the cartons, will appear in the results section.
Other tips
Accuracy
The values shown are rough estimates. Real-life packing can be affected by factors such as carton shape differences, slight measurement variations, or how efficiently cartons are loaded onto the pallet.
Unit Conversion
If you choose centimeters for carton dimensions, all calculations will be carried out in inches after conversion, and the final carton size is displayed in your chosen unit.
Weight Constraints
When a weight limit is provided, the calculator checks both spatial and weight limits and then selects the more restrictive number. This ensures that the pallet is not overloaded in terms of space or weight.
