How to Use the Calculator
- Select the Output Unit
At the top, use the radio buttons to choose whether you want the final volume in Cubic Meters (m³) or Cubic Feet (ft³). - Enter the Dimensions
Input the Length, Width, and Height of your product. - Specify Quantity and Input Unit
Enter the number of items (Quantity) and choose the unit type (Meter, ft, Inches, mm, or cm) from the dropdown. The calculator automatically converts the values to meters. - Calculate
Click the “Calculate Volume” button. The tool computes the total volume based on your inputs and displays the result in your selected output unit.
Benefits Of Using a CBM Calculator
- Accurately calculate how much space your cargo will occupy to maximize container capacity.
- Quickly determine both the total volume and weight for proper shipment planning.
- Simplify logistics by easily assessing how products fit into various container sizes.
- Reduce the number of shipments and cargo handling time through efficient loading strategies.
- Gain insights into cargo volume and weight distribution to select the best shipping container and methods.
Technical Details and Formulas
- CBM Calculation Formula:
Volume = Length (m) × Width (m) × Height (m)
(Input dimensions can be provided in meters, centimeters, inches, or feet; the tool converts them to meters.) - Typical Container Dimensions Used:
- 20 FT Container: 589 cm (L) x 230 cm (W) x 230 cm (H)
- 40 FT Container: 1200 cm (L) x 230 cm (W) x 230 cm (H)
- 40 FT High Cube Container: 1200 cm (L) x 230 cm (W) x 260 cm (H)
What Is Volumetric Weight?
For large but lightweight items, shipping costs are often based on the space they occupy rather than their actual weight. The volumetric weight is calculated as:
Volumetric Weight (kg) = Length (cm) × Width (cm) × Height (cm) / 5000
Compare this figure with the actual weight—the higher value is used for shipment costing.
